Mepkin Abbey - Part I

We found signs of Spring at Mepkin Abbey...

The gardens here are cultivated by Trappist monks who spend their entire adult life in prayerful service caring for one another and the beautiful grounds here.

As you ease your way down the oak-lined entrance, make a mental note to slow your pace and mind... you are heading into something special.

Take a peek at the lush gardens that are nestled on the banks of the Cooper River.

You will find meditative spots, such as the Secular Cemetery pictured here, to wander freely with your children. This is one of the most peaceful places I know... very still and calming.

Filled with Spring in bloom, the colors ignite the gardens...

Just another Low Country treat that's free for the taking... take time to soak it all in. The monks are happy to share and will be delighted that you came.
Tune in tomorrow for more of the history of Mepkin Abbey.

Mepkin Abbey - Trappist Monastery
1098 Mepkin Abbey Rd.
Moncks Corner, SC Click here for map
Hours: Tuesday-Saturday 9am-4pm
Sunday 1pm-4pm (closed Mondays)
Guided Tours: 11:30am & 3pm, during open hours (children free, adults $5 donation). PMK tip- the tour lasts about an hour and little ones are welcome. My boys got a lot out of it and peppered us with questions all the way home! Friday is not the best day to visit the monastery as the monks have a day off and you won't get the same experience as when they are present.
