hope is the key

This Easter Sunday, I had the pleasure of savoring a service with the message of hope as the centerpiece of the sermon. It was still at the forefront of my thoughts when I met up with the gals from Keys for Hope on Monday. Their message is not only full of hope, but joy and laughter as well...

What happens when you put a group of great girlfriends together who have one really big and powerful idea?  Their combined energy has resulted in the forging of a non profit organization to raise funds to provide a new shelter for the Charleston area Crisis Ministries. These young ladies have bonded together to give hope to those in our community who are in need of so much...often, hope is all they have left.

The girls range in age from 9 to 12, and originally started Keys for Hope as a school project. They decorate keys and create necklaces and key chains to sell for $5 each, and to date they have raised an incredible $37,000 for Crisis Ministries! The keys are donated through the community and our own Royal Ace Hardware has really stood behind the program. The group had an amazing experience creating their cool logo with help from The Art Institute of Charleston and have also learned life skills through their work to create a non profit entity, learn sales skills and keep track of finances, and work with the community to build their business. I was so inspired by the commitment and energy these girls have for this project and I see the poise and confidence it has given them.

These clever ladies collaborated on their fantastic logo and if you look closely, you can see the image of a house at the base of the keys. The new key design above is a magnet and the running shoe will be a big hit this Friday at the Wonderfest Kids Run at Hampton Park leading up to the Cooper River Bridge Run on Saturday. Visit the Keys for Hope booth at Wonderfest... your contribution goes a long way toward the goal of raising the money needed to support Crisis Ministries.

Thanks to the girls from Keys to Hope... your energy stayed with me all day!
