Life and Art in Charleston 104- winter beach retreat

Local artist Martha Williamson's  beautiful watercolor reminds my boys and I of yesterday's post on walking Kiawah Island. It's hard not to stop in your tracks and take in the golden tones in the marsh in the winter sunset. To enjoy full access to Kiawah Island, consider the affordable rates of the off season - a great winter retreat close to Charleston. We love the solitude of Kiawah for the marsh (we recently spent the weekend on Kiawah to run the annual half marathon and I had to go back to the spot below after the run to capture what I had seen)...

the live oaks and moss... (I looked up from a bike ride on the path at Kiawah and this shot below took my breath away)

the parks...

and the beach...

If you're looking for a quick getaway close to Charleston, this is a great time of year to experience Kiawah.

For more information on staying on the island, consider a villa through http://www.kiawahresort.com/accommodations/ or check the http://www.vrbo.com/vacation-rentals/usa/south-carolina/charleston-area/kiawah-island link. Over the last 14 years, we have never experienced anything but excellent accommodation in all the villa options.
