10 years of CAM and a new Spoleto

Congratulations to the Charleston Academy of Music for 10 years of devoted instruction to aspiring musicians. If you've thought of signing your child up for lessons in piano, voice, guitar, violin, or cello, now's the time! You will receive 5% off your total tuition in celebration of their anniversary!

ahhh Spoleto... When the new Spoleto program of events arrives each year, my heart skips a beat. What a fabulous city we live in that offers two weeks of perfection in the arts. But main Spoleto events with kids? Every year I pick one or two to enjoy with my boys, but believe me when I say you have to pick carefully. Talking with a few other moms recently, we agreed the following factors matter:

  • the venue (the Gaillard was great and impressive for ballet with kids)
  • time of day (C of C Cistern Yard at 9pm is probably not a  good idea, but there are lots of matinee times)
  • if it says "edgy" or "jaw-dropping" in the event description, it may translate to "not for little eyes"!
Here are a few events that caught my eye for child friendly options this year:
  • Jared Grimes contemporary tap ensemble at the Emmett Robinson Theatre at College of Charleston Sunday, May 26th at 4pm
  • Ballet Flamenco De Andalucia at the TD Arena at College of Charleston. Sunday, June 2 at 1pm
  • Any of the Bank of America Chamber Music series at the Dock Street Theatre
The Gaillard (below) is closed for renovations, but the TD Arena at College of Charleston is a new venue this year.
